Tomato chutney for dosa - Onion tomato chutney andhra style for dosa, idli

Onion Tomato chutney for dosa andhra style is really an awesome and drool worthy combination. This tangy spicy chutney tastes really good for idli, pesarattu and pakoda. Chutneys are commonly made in every indian home. Usually chutneys are made with coconut, tomatoes, even with veggies and fruits too.

This tomato chutney is one such variety commonly prepared in south indian cuisine.

Apart from the tangy taste from tomatoes, spicy taste is imparted from the dry red chillies and green chillies along with garlic used in the recipe. 

This chutney pairs extremely well with dosa, idli, pesarattu, uthappam and vada as well. You can serve this with onion pakodas too. I bet this spicy thakkali chutney will soon becomes a part of your diet routine.

Ingredients to make onion tomato chutney for dosa :

1. Tomatoes - 2
2. Onion - 1 (small)
3. Green Chillies - 2
4. Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
5. Coriander Leaves - 3 to 4 sprigs
6. Dry Red Chillies - 2
7. Coriander Seeds - 1/2 tbsp
8. Cumin Seeds - 1/2 tsp
9. Tamarind - 2 to 3 small pieces
10. Garlic Pods - 3 to 4
11. Salt - To Taste
12. Oil - 2 tbsps
13. Water - As needed

For Tempering:

1. Oil - 2 tsps
2. Curry Leaves - 1 sprig
3. Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tsp
4. Channa Dal - 1 tbsp

How to make tomato chutney for dosa andhra style step by step with photos

1. Heat oil in a small pan

2. Once oil is hot add dry red chillies, cumin and coriander seeds


3. Let them splutter, now add onion and green chilli pieces, saute them for 2 to 3 minutes

4. Now add garlic pods, tomato pieces, tamarind

5. Also add turmeric powder and salt, cook till tomatoes turn mushy
6. Now switch off the flame and allow this stuff to cool down completely

7. In a mixer pulse this stuff along with coriander leaves to a smooth paste by adding water as required
8. Dish out this pulsed chutney to a bowl

For Tempering:

1. Heat oil in a small pan, when oil turns hot add all the ingredients under "For Tempering" list and allow them to splutter
2. Now switch off the flame and pour this tempering on the chutney, mix nicely and serve this Onion tomato chutney for dosa, idli, uthappam etc.
