green peas masala north indian recipe - green peas curry for Chapathi


Spicy Green Peas Masala North indian recipe is one of the best curry for chapathi, roti and pooriI have tasted this green peas masala curry in a restaurant and fell in love, I tried this at home though it didn't came out exact restaurant style but I was happy that it tasted really better. It is also known as Green Peas Hara Gravy or Hara vatana(in marathi) or Hariyali Matar masala recipe.

Here we use much of the greens like coriander leaves, mint leaves and green chillies to make the gravy look green in colour.

Also I limited the quantities of other ingredients such as turmeric powder and red chilli powder which can change the colour of the recipe.  Green Peas are widely available during winters. If in unseason you wish to prepare this recipe then don't worry frozen green peas are readily available through out the year in almost all the grocery stores.

Ingredients for spicy green peas masala north indian recipe



1. Green Peas (Matar) - 1 cup
2. Green Chillies - 2
3. Onion - 1
4. Tomato - 1
5. Curry Leaves - 1 sprig
6. Coriander Leaves - 3 to 4 sprigs
7. Mint Leaves - 1 sprig
8. Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tsp
9. Peanuts - 3 tbsps
10. Dry Coconut Powder - 2 tbsps
11. Sesame Seeds - 2 tbsps
12. Fresh Cream - 1 tsp
13. Kasuri Methi - 1 tsp (Give link of kasuri methi link here)
14. Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
15. Salt - To Taste
16. Red Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
17. Garam Masla Powder - 2 tsps
18. Coriander Powder - 1 tsp
19. Oil - 3 to 4 tbsps
20. Water - 1 cup
21. Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tsp
22. Cumin Seeds - 1/2 tsp

Procedure:

How to make green peas curry for Chapathi, Roti and Poori

1. Dry roast peanuts in a pan, when peanuts start crackling add sesame seeds



2. When they start crackling add dry coconut powder and when all these are nicely roasted and a nice aroma comes out, switch off the flame and allow this stuff to cool down
3. Once this cools down completely, grind it to a fine powder and keep aside



 

4. Now in the same pan, add little oil and when oil becomes hot add green chillies, some onion pieces, tomato pieces, coriander and mint leaves


5. Once tomatoes become mushy add little salt mix once and cool this stuff
6. Once this is completely cooled down grind this to a fine paste, keep aside




7. Now in the same pan, add remaining oil when oil becomes hot add mustard, cumin seeds, curry leaves and remaining onion pieces
8. When onion turn transparant add ginger garlic paste and saute for a minute
9. Now add washed green peas, fry till peas become whiter i.e. till they are nicely cooked



10. Now add ground tomato and coriander, mint leaves paste and stir once



11. Add turmeric powder, salt, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder and ground peanut, sesame and coconut powder




12. Mix nicely add little water and cook till oil floats on top
13. This takes around 5 to 6 minutes

14. Now dishout and garnish with crushed kasuri methi and fresh cream
15. Spicy
green peas masala restaurant style is ready to serve. 

As already said this green peas masala for chapathi also goes well with rotis, phulkas, naans and pooris as well.
