dondakaya fry andhra style, dondakaya vepudu deep fry recipe


Dondakaya Fry Andhra style or Dondakaya Vepudu Deep Fry recipe is an easy to make recipe, tastes awesome and goes well with rotis and rice as well. This recipe is also known as tindora bhaji or donda fry or kundru in hindi, dondakaya vepudu in telugu and or kovakkai poriyal in tamil and Ivy gourd in english which is rich in beta-carotene and benefits in eye problems and skin disorders.

Chopping ivy gourds is sure a time taking process but the end product will be super scrumptious. Dondakaya is a watery vegetable and hence it is good to eat in summers. I prepare this recipe at least twice a month. 


I served this  recipe with "Majjiga chaaru" but Sambar or Rasam also suits better. You can serve this recipe with chapathi also. Do check my gravy recipe made using Tindora i.e. Dondakaya Masala Curry and also do check another fry variety named Dondakaya Kobbari Fry.


Ingredients to make dondakaya fry andhra style - dondakaya vepudu recipe

1. Dondakayalu - 500 gms
2. Onion - 1
3. Green Chillies - 4
4. Curry Leaves - 1 sprig
5. Coriander Leaves - 2 to 3 sprigs
6. Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
7. Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
8. Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
9. Salt - To taste
10. Red Chilli Powder - 1 n  1/2 tsp
11. Coriander Powder - 1/2 tsp
12. Oil - 4 to 5 tsps

Procedure:

How to make dondakaya vepudu deep fry recipe


1. Heat oil in a pan
2. Once oil is hot, add mustard and cumin seeds
3. When they splutter, add onion and green chilli pieces, curry leaves
4. When onion pieces turn transparant, add sliced dondakaya pieces, add salt and turmeric powder
5. Mix well, cover and cook till dondakaya becomes soft
6. It takes 15 to 20 minutes for dondakaya to get cooked, keep stirring in between
7. When it turns soft add red chilli powder and coriander powder
8. Mix well and cook for 5 more minutes
9. When dondakaya pieces become crunchy, switch off the flame, dishout and garnish with coriander leaves
10. You can serve dondakaya fry with steamed rice, majjiga chaaru and kaara boondhi in andhra style thali, also Sambar or Rasam also suits better, 

11. You can try this dondakaya vepudu with chapathi and roti.
